How to do a French Manicure

You can create a beautiful french manicure at home and avoid the expensive cost of a salon. Sally Hansen makes a Hard as Nails French Manicure kit that works wonderfully. Any french manicure kit will do though, so pick your fave and let's get started!

Step 1. Open your french manicure kit and get out the nail tip guides. Remove the nail tip guide sticker from the backing and place the guide on your fingernail. The edge of the curved guide should be just past the tip of your nail leaving the entire tip of the nail exposed for painting. There should be excess guide left over on each side of your nail. Firmly secure the guide to your fingernail and then to each side of your finger. Repeat this step until all your fingernails have the nail tip guides in place.

Tip - Be sure the nail guides are smooth and secure over the nail so when you paint the tips excess polish will not get under the sticker!

Step 2. Remove the French Tip White Polish from the french manicure kit and shake it well. Open the polish and apply it to each tip going from the outside of the tip to the center of the tip. Be sure the entire tip is covered by the white polish. Let the polish dry on the tips for about 3-5 minutes and then remove the nail tip guides.

Tip - When removing the tip guides peel the guide from your finger first, then as you remove the guide from the tip be sure to pull the guide up and away from the tip of the nail.

Step 3. Remove the Sheer French Color from the french manicure kit and shake it well. Apply the colored polish over the entire nail, including the tip. Let the polish dry for for about 3-5 minutes. A second coat is optional at this point. If a second coat is applied, let the colored polish dry for another 3-5 minutes.

Tip - One coat of the colored polish gives the fingernails more of a natural look. Two coats of the colored polish gives the fingernails more of a salon finished look.

Step 4. Remove the UV Top Coat Clear polish from the french manicure kit and shake well. Apply the clear polish over the entire nail, including the tip. Let the polish dry for for about 3-5 minutes.

Tip - You can re-apply the clear coat polish every few days to help keep the french manicure looking fresh.
